Photoplay's Lucinda Schreiber has been commissioned by Wally De Backer, aka GOTYE, to create visuals for his current worldwide tour. Lucinda's animations have been playing on giant screens as an awesome backdrop to Gotye's beautiful music as the tour moves across the USA and heads to Europe in November.
Wally approached Lucinda because he loved her signature quirkly illustration and crafty, quirky animation style.
According to Lucinda the main inspiration for ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ was the song's "hypnotic beat that immediately conjured up images of continuously growing and repeating loops". Indeed, audiences are held in jubilant daze with her quirky morphing bear-man in ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. Gotye tweeted the animation to his fans, saying "[her visuals] are such a joy to perform in front of".
Her newest animation is ‘What Do You Want’. Lucinda says she was "drawn to telling it in a more narrative way where the artist is transformed through his own creation and the audience is transported with him". This dark and somewhat spooky animation sees wide-eyed paper puppets, werewolves, drumming monkeys and dancing skeletons beautifully brought to life in stop-motion.
