Adulting is hard and it’s nearly impossible to avoid the stresses in life that lie around every turn. Fortunately, the newest campaign from BBDO and Hormel Foods for SKIPPY Peanut Butter offers a remedy.
In three new 15-second spots, viewers are encouraged to 'Go To Your SKIPPY Place' — a helpful reminder that you can take on life’s ups and downs, one SKIPPY Peanut Butter break at a time.
“Every day provides so many moments we could use a little SKIPPY Peanut Butter hug to get us through,” says Laura Fegley, chief creative officer at BBDO Minneapolis. “there’s so many deliciously-uncomfortable scenarios we can all identify with in some way.”
Each film brings to life these relatable moments in all their glory. In Public Transit, a young woman commutes while enduring a subway car full of strange characters, including an obnoxious manspreader. In Roommates, a young woman deals with the realities of high rental costs. Namely, living with a bunch of weird roommates. In Hashtag Dad, a young father perseveres as he’s forced by his daughter and her teenage friends to be a part of a social media video. As we learn of each hero’s plight, viewers are encouraged to “take life one spoonful at a time. Go To Your SKIPPY Place.
The campaign was shot to emphasize the juxtaposition between the tranquility of a calming SKIPPY snack break and the stressful nature of daily life.
"To tell these stories in a fun, digestible way, each spot is a reveal done in a single shot,” says Meghan Rongitsch, senior art director at BBDO. “It was a labour of love nailing choreography, timing, and visuals, but in the end we were able to bring our vision to life, and it sure made the edit a lot easier."
Each story begins with a calm moment showing the hero enjoying SKIPPY Peanut Butter, before the camera pulls back to reveal that they’re living through a humorously awkward scenario. The work will be featured on television, digital video, and social media.
To create the work, BBDO partnered with the director team, Terri Timely, and two production company partners, Park Pictures and STORY.
The commercials feature multiple SKIPPY Peanut Butter products, including SKIPPY Squeeze Peanut Butter packs and traditional jars to target young adults looking for delicious snacks at home or on the go.
