Past, Present and Future of the Trett Films and Treacle7 Trinity

Treacle7 shares insight into its growing relationship with Trett Films

Over five years of Trett Films they have worked with some really exciting clients. Some highlights have been; David Lynch Foundation, Sainsbury’s, KPMG, Apprenticeships, MCN and Lloyds Bank. Trett Films are always on the lookout for clients who have an interesting story to tell that they can really get their teeth into.

Trett Films roots are in the hometown of Norwich but currently are split 50/50 between there and London. Josh and Matty both got into filmmaking at a young age. “We grew up in a really small village and there was never much to do so we would dress up as all sorts of characters with our friends and film ourselves creating our own versions of Batman, Terminator or James Bond. The plots were thin but that sense of imagination grew from there.”

Their long term commitment to video creation has resulted in recently being nominated for a few awards and even picked up some wins including best brand building and ad of the year. “We put a lot of work into every project so it’s always nice to get recognition. Also, a bit of a fan boy’s dream but a project we produced last year for David Lynch Foundation was actually watched by the man himself.”

Trett Films has always been about putting the filmmaking first, not building an empire and flying drones out to do all our filming whilst sitting at home rewatching The Sopranos for the fifth time. “We’ve always been filmmakers at heart and I like to think that comes through in everything we do''. Their projects are almost like a cheat way of making short films, giving each project a lot of love and hard work to make it something we are proud of. “I think when people watch our work they can instantly tell it is something we’ve made.”

Trett Films’ close relationship with clients. And the companies they work with. Often describe our work as ‘cinematic’ but it basically comes down to the filmmaking language Trett Films use on screen. Matty works as director of photography on most of their projects and likes to bring in references for lighting setups or framing from all different films.

There are some really exciting things on the horizon at Trett Films. Matty and Josh are both huge James Bond fans so a big one for them is that they are now working closely with the team at Ian Fleming Publications on the promotion of the latest 007 novel. Trett Films are also working with a local charity to produce a film that aims to break the stereotypes of homelessness. And finally are developing the script for a feature film debut, with some help from experienced producers who are sharing their knowledge to shape the film up for investment.

Treacle7 asked the Trett partnership what it's like to work so closely with their brother, how it’s helped them to push each other and how they endure a professional relationship together.

“Some people notice a resemblance straight away whilst others don’t see it at all but there’s not that many Tretts around and it’s not too likely that we would meet with a love of film and build a business together. But when people do find out we’re brothers it’s usually the same response ‘HOW DO YOU WORK WITH YOUR BROTHER?’ I don’t see it as a shocking thing at all, we have a really good working relationship because being brothers you don’t take things so personally. I think if I was in business with a friend or partner for example it would be much more difficult. We also grew up watching the same films and TV and a lot of that comes back into our own work. If we’re not talking about work we’re talking about the latest thing we saw and we have very similar tastes.”

Most importantly, Treacle7 wanted to know why Trett Films believed its partnership would be so valuable.

Matty and Josh have been following Treacle7 for a fair few years now and always admired their work. To them the projects really reflected the sort of work we have been doing at Trett Films so it seemed like a perfect fit. “We’re really looking forward to working with Treacle7 and can’t wait to see what's on the cards”
