Oskar illustration Signs Artist David Samuel

Oskar illustration has welcomed an exciting new artist to its studio, exclusively signing David Samuel. 

David Samuel, born and bred in Kilburn, North West London, is a pioneering figure in the art world. He opened the UK's first graffiti art gallery, RareKind Gallery, in 2003. Expanding his influence, David launched the RareKind Agency in 2011, collaborating with hoteliers, developers, film studios, and brands to bring fresh, bold, and exciting art to various industries. 

Throughout his journey, David has remained a dedicated practising artist. Over the past five years, he has refined his unique artistic style, creating colourful and abstract works through painting and sculpture inspired by life’s connections. 

His designs all start with one shape with a hole or two shapes interlocking, representing the concept of 'Being' and the connections with other beings, such as friends and family. In some designs, he keeps clear and calm, while others glitch to illustrate the organic and man-made fractious nature of relationships, from love to dealing with life's dramas. 

David on joining Oi!, "I felt I got to a point in my artistic journey where I needed to reach more people and be directed and pointed in other directions further than my reach. I began researching illustration agents when I came across Oi’s profile. Their expertise in the industry, range of projects, and artists was appealing and I felt I’d be in good hands. Our first meeting ran over in a big way, we kept throwing ideas at each other and the vibe and energy that came from that meeting ran high. This is a great new home for me."

Founder Oli on David joining the team, "I can’t take the credit for finding David! Sarah, our project director put his work under my nose. I was intrigued to see more as his body of work was so extensive, spanning over 20 years, that I needed to meet in person for David to help me digest it. When we met, I was blown away by the works of art adorning his studio walls. And his positive energy was infectious. David’s latest body of work is beautifully abstract, and bold but considered. His various production methods are exciting. You should check out his chairs! I just wanted to buy it all. A good sign. So, I signed him. Thanks Sarah".
