O’Neill TRVLR Series is a collection designed for the destination - no matter what.
Things are always that bit more memorable when they don’t quite go to plan, aren’t they?
Based on the insight that we’re much more likely to remember and treasure the journeys that veer off course compared to those that go precisely to plan, O’Neill set about creating a clip that aimed to celebrate and embrace what those unexpected twists and turns bring to a trip.
Oskar illustration love the idea that these journeys give us the chance to create unique bonds with our trip companions and even discover different sides to our characters. The team had fun recollecting its own stories of trips gone wrong and were swiftly on board with O’Neill’s campaign idea to recreate a memorable story of a trip that hasn’t gone according to plan.
Oskar illustration’s contribution to the campaign highlighted the O’Neill TRVLR Series, a collection designed for the destination - no matter what. The brilliant Bertrand Aznar was commissioned to create a series of key illustrations, beautifully and intricately bringing to life the innovative features and details of the new collection.
As part of the process the O’Neill team undertook an epic photo shoot with pro surfer Ben Larg who got to know the products on his own mini adventure in Wales with other surfers. Alongside the photos of Ben in the hero jacket out in the wild, we were also sent one enabling Bertrand to see, feel and experience wearing it in real life. Equipped with source material and a great brief, Bertrand was prepped and ready to start work for one of the oldest and most innovative surf brands in history.
Bertrand really was in his element in this world, bringing his signature personality, charm and beautiful detail to the project.
Bertrand said of the project, “It was so cool for me to work on this project and be transported into a universe through the photoshoot O'Neill did with Ben in Wales. This helped me a lot in creating the contemplative attitude of the character (Ben) in the hero illustration.
In my work, when I have to reproduce something, a garment for example, it’s very important for me to try the product, to have it physically in my hands and to be able to understand it. It’s way more complicated to reproduce something when it’s only based on pictures”.
O’Neill Marketing Team said of the project, “We really wanted to showcase the Modular concept of this collection, various jackets that can be worn separately or zipped together, which allows our consumers to be ready for every adventure.”
“When it came to choose who to partner with to illustrate this feature, we immediately thought about Bertrand. His skills and work perfectly matched what we were looking for: attention to details, focus on functionality and innovation, bold execution. We are very happy of the outcome and the feedback both Bertrand and we received from our audience.”
