There aren't any advertising people here (at least no obvious whiff of them), there are no VIP lines, no exclusive parties, no fancy green rooms, no Escalades holding up traffic, and no long waits for dinner - this is the last weekend of TIFF '22 otherwise known as the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival...and it glorious.
I feel incredibly at ease here in Toronto, with all of its politeness, unusually tropical humidity and beautiful grayish skies where actual film lovers traverse the clean and quaint streets of Canada’s largest metropolis to discover films and filmmakers that are at the forefront of (mostly) independent cinema - on that note here are a few of my favorite discoveries from this year's festival.
A few shorts by director's that should go on to bigger budget projects (if anyone at the big studios is paying attention) - a major release and probably future Oscar contender from Park Chan Cook and two amazing documentaries that completely deserve your time and attention, enjoy this list and you're welcome.
In no particular order:
3. I'm on Fire
4. No Bears
6. While We Watched
