Great Guns’ Ben Brand directs the online campaign set in an English clifftop valley

Pampers has sent singer and TV personality Olly Murs to Scratchy Bottom with a flock of CG storks in a new online campaign produced by Great Guns, and directed by Ben Brand.

The ad is set in an English clifftop valley by the sea – artfully named Scratchy Bottom – and sees Olly Murs call upon the babies of Britain to make it the only scratchy bottom in the nation. To aid the mission, Olly promises to send one of his accompanying storks to fly a pack of Pampers Premium Protection from the Dorset shore straight to customers’ doors.

Hooked by the absurd comedy of the brief, director Ben Brand took the opportunity to shoot in actual Scratchy Bottom. The team looked at a few other Bottoms in pre-production… as location options: Rough Bottom, Claggy Bottom, and even Soggy Bottom. In the end, with breathtaking views perfect for the shoot, Scratchy Bottom was a clear winner. To take centre stage on its cliffs, singer and new parent Olly Murs was selected for his warm and playful personality as well as his presenting experience – a natural fit for the acting required of the role.

Director Ben Brand reflects on filming, “As it was the height of summer, I arrived to location the day before the shoot in my shorts, slippers, and a sun hat. But when I opened the curtains of my seaside trailer on the morning of the shoot, I couldn’t see more than two metres ahead because of the thick fog and torrential rain. Welcome to England by the sea, haha! By the time we reached the location, everything was soaked — including me. Even the four-by-fours (the location was inaccessible to normal vehicles) were slipping all over the place, and shooting anything that day seemed impossible. It felt like we were on the set of ‘Lost in La Mancha’, a Terry Gilliam film! But, luckily for us, the weather eventually cleared, and we managed to shoot everything right on time.”
