Venice-based production company Carbo Films has signed director/DP Nicolás Puenzo for U.S. commercial representation. Growing up in a film-infused household with an Oscar-nominated director as a father and feature film and commercial directors for siblings, Puenzo has been involved with filmmaking since birth. He began directing commercials at 24 and has helmed spots for the likes of Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Unilever, MasterCard, Honda and Chevrolet.
Says Carbo EP Dora Medrano, “We’re very excited about having Nico on board. He is one of the most gifted young storytellers in Argentina, combining the visual skills from his DP experience with a strong sense of narrative and comedic timing, along with a strong background in VFX.”
Growing up in Argentina, Puenzo began working on both commercial and feature film sets at a very young age. As a teen, he transitioned quickly from crew to camera operator and later to DP. While working off and on as a DP on features like Bomba by Sergio Bizzio and Wakolda by Lucia Puenzo, he earned a degree in Film Direction from the National Film Institute of Argentina.
Alongside his brother director Pepe Puenzo, he co-founded Puenzo Hnos (Puenzo Brothers), a commercial production company with offices in Buenos Aires and Santiago, Chile as PHC. He also started 3DN, a Buenos Aires-based visual effects studio.
Puenzo’s commercial work is distinguished by its kinetic energy captured with artful composition and stunning visuals. Comfortable in comedy or VFX-laden spots, he is a complete visual storyteller.
