Venice-based production company Carbo Films has signed noted Spanish filmmaker Belén Gayán for commercial representation in the U.S. market. Gayán, who was repped in the U.S. by Carbo years ago, is a highly regarded helmer in Spain and across Europe. She’s a co-founder with her brother director Nacho Gayán in the Barcelona/Madrid-based production company, Agosto. Now that Gayán has become one of the most sought-after directors in Spain with international campaigns for Audi, Renault, Tropicana, Skoda, Barclays and Coca-Cola to name a few, she’s eager to return to the U.S. market.
Says Carbo EP Dora Medrano, “We’re thrilled to have Belén back on our roster. She’s always been an incredibly gifted visual storyteller, but now she’s grown into a true artist. We can’t wait to begin working together again.”
Gayán’s work is defined by meticulously crafted visuals supported by engaging and expressive performances. There’s always warmth and humanity in her narratives, and often sophisticated humor by cleverly using choreography and pace.
Born and bred in Spain, Gayán studied Audiovisual Communication in Barcelona before earning a Masters Degree in Communication at the Chicago Art Institute. Gayán’s first job in commercial production was as a P.A. back in Barcelona, then she quickly advanced to Agency Producer at the Spanish agency *S.C.P.F. and later Assistant Director. In 2000, she began working as a director for Barcelona-based production company Pirámide, where she directed spots for the likes of Audi, Aquarius, Renault, Coca-Cola and Telefonica. In 2006, she co-founded the wildly successful Spanish production company, Agosto.
