Campaign produced by Zerotrillion comprised of an hour-long international TV special that debuted last summer

The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards has announced the winners at the Storytellers Gala in New York, the Industry Awards recipients for 2022, with 'Alessia Cara – Live from Niagara Falls' proudly taking home gold for the Branded Documentary category.

The campaign, which was produced by Zerotrillion, mainly comprised an hour-long international TV special that debuted last summer with new music and intimate rearrangements of Alessia Cara’s most famous songs intertwined with vulnerable interviews. This balance of breathtaking scenery at the Majestic Canadian side of Niagara Falls and music allured a broad demographic of Canadians through Alessia Cara’s fanbase and allowed audiences to engage in deeper conversations around travelling to Niagara Falls once travel restrictions eased. The special aired in August across Canada and was released globally on Alessia Cara’s YouTube channel and U.S. TV Outlets such as MTV and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

To kick the campaign off, Alessia Cara’s single 'Sweet Dream' debut was filmed aboard Canada’s #1 tourism attraction, Niagara City Cruises, and premiered on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert later that summer. In addition, an acoustic version of the song was filmed at the Niagara Falls Sheraton Hotel; in a custom-built set made specifically to capture the intimacy of the performance and was released on MTV Fresh Out Live. The two performances making up the campaign's first phase served an impressive 225M+ reach in broadcasting, press coverage, and social media and was even covered in Rollingstone.

Janice Thomson, CEO of Niagara Falls Tourism said: “The opportunity to present Niagara Falls on the international stage through a professional production featuring live performances by Ontario-born artist, Alessia Cara, with talented filmmakers and creative directors, all in the naturally beautiful environment of Niagara Falls, provided a tremendous boost for our destination. A collection of proud businesses and tourism experts that are truly committed to creating memorable experiences and delivering on our reputation as Canada’s Entertainment Capital, Niagara Falls Tourism and our event partners, The Tourism Partnership of Niagara, and the Province of Ontario, were delighted with the creative process and the final product.”

Zerotrillion CEO, Alex Paquin added: “It’s thrilling to see this work for Niagara Falls Tourism awarded, not amongst other advertising campaigns, but alongside productions from The Walt Disney Company, The Discovery Channel and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It’s a true testament to what’s possible with unbound imagination and genuine commitment to a creative partnership. We brought hundreds of millions of people into the world of Niagara Falls Canada to intimately experience Alessia’s latest musings and music, and it was clear from the YouTube comments how much it meant to so many of them. Each partner, from Niagara Falls Tourism to Alessia Cara to Stephen Colbert to MTV, to the millions of fans and visitors at home, won in the way that they needed to through this collaboration. It’s truly what Zerotrillion was created to do, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
