The Inclusive Leader focuses on behaviour change, teaching active ways to turn up the dial on inclusion in the industry

NABS has launched a new training programme, The Inclusive Leader, a practical course to help adland’s businesses create working cultures in which everybody feels they belong.

The Inclusive Leader focuses on behaviour change, teaching active ways to turn up the dial on inclusion in our industry. The course, delivered in two parts, builds on the increasing awareness in our industry around D,E&I issues, empowering delegates to understand how they can shift their behaviour to create more inclusive teams.

The course is supported by a toolkit full of coaching tools designed to help leaders and teams continue to apply their learnings in the workplace.

NABS Training is NABS’ commercial learning and development arm, running market-specific training programmes that help to fund NABS’ free core services.

The programme has been created in direct response to NABS’ recent research Diversity in Focus, which brought to life the stories of people from marginalised groups working across advertising and media.

The research revealed the mental health challenges faced by these individuals as a direct consequence of not feeling a sense of belonging at work. Those interviewed revealed the stress, loneliness and anxiety caused by not fitting in, along with a strong desire to be better supported to thrive in their careers.

NABS’ experts consequently identified a need for managers across adland to lead with greater empathy and openness, taking time to build trust and understand and appreciate their team members’ individual needs and strengths. Leading in this way encourages managers to offer tailored and equitable support to their teams, and helps team members to feel more valued for their authentic selves. The result is positive and long-lasting culture change.

The Inclusive Leader has been designed to give team leaders the self-awareness and knowledge necessary to empower them to lead with empathy and openness. It gives practical understanding and techniques needed to put these qualities into action, starting with small steps to elicit meaningful change.

Each attendee will receive a toolkit packed with resources to help them continue their development as an inclusive leader after the course.

The programme was developed in conjunction with experts in leadership and behaviour, who identified a core principle that small changes in behaviour can lead to considerable and positive culture change. This is therefore a key tenet of NABS Training in Inclusive Leadership.

Sara Piddlesden-Whalley, transformation director, NABS said: “The Inclusive Leader focuses on what managers need to do to become more inclusive and fundamentally how they can shift their behaviour. The course encourages managers to see the value of small changes in behaviour that they can build on over time. They can then use this as a blueprint for continuous learning and improvement.

“Inclusive businesses are more commercially successful. It's business sense, as well as ethical sense, to train your teams in inclusivity. Managers who take NABS Training in Inclusive Leadership will be given practical and accessible training in how to support people in a way that will help our industry to become more welcoming, more diverse and better for staff wellbeing.”

NABS Training in Inclusive Leadership costs £2900 for a group of 12, including two two-hour workshops and insight-packed and practical course materials.
