VML Mexico Campaign highlights the importance of secure digital environment to detect and prevent risks in the world of video games

Movistar, a Telefónica brand, presents awareness campaign 'This Is Not a Game,' focused on creating safer environments for video game players - particularly minors. Designed in a style that mimics the interface of popular video games, 'This Is Not a Game' highlights the risks players face when interacting with unknown online profiles.

In online video games minors often interact with a variety of profiles, and more than 75% of those profiles are unknown individuals and strangers (Executive Secretariat of the National System for Comprehensive Protection of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents). Among the predatory risks that minors can face in these situations are proposals to meet outside the virtual world, which can carry serious risks, including grooming, human trafficking, forced labour and kidnapping.

"At Movistar, we recognise the power of technology to generate more human connections. Through ‘This Is Not a Game,’ we seek to raise awareness in society about the risks existing in the world of video games. We invite players and caregivers of minors to take control and get involved to detect and prevent risks associated with online gaming interactions. People give meaning to technology, and with information, we can use it responsibly," explained Fernanda Pérez, head of brand and integrated marketing communications.

The campaign effort is part of Movistar’s ongoing commitment to bringing the best experience to users. For many years, Movistar has invested in building a series of campaigns that promote a secure environment and address cultural issues in the digital world.

'This Is Not a Game' adds to Movistar's awareness campaigns such as 'Disconnected,' which invites reflection on the importance of digital disconnection, and 'Love Story,' which addresses fake profiles and predatory risks on social networks. Movistar’s 'This Is Not a Game' reminds us that, while technology opens opportunities to connect, share, learn, work, develop skills, and have fun, creating safe and inclusive environments by using technology responsibly is also important.
