Created by Mother, Bliss is a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind, art statement and design piece. Part of a conceptual line of floating furniture, the Bliss sofa and ottoman set is designed for a world where rising sea levels make the idea of floating furniture increasingly relevant. The Bliss Sofa made its debut on May 18th at Tuleste Factory as part of their NYCxDESIGN exhibition, Harmonious Proportions.
An Environmental Statement
Science indicates that climate change is melting Earth’s polar ice caps and that humans are to blame for their own inevitable, catastrophic end. But rather than panic or succumb to the elements, Mother has made it possible to “sit back, relax, and continue doing nothing”… in Bliss!
The tagline implies that one can live blissfully indifferent to the world's struggles, while in reality, we should all do the exact opposite. With a satirical lens, the art piece aims to highlight the imbalance between people with means and those without, during times of catastrophe.
By investing in this art piece, the buyer will contribute to critical discussions about our collective future and provide financial aid to the USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with a portion of proceeds being donated to the organisation to benefit persons displaced in the context of climate change.
A Unique Piece of Furniture for the Future
When waters reach the “critical” mark on Bliss’s sea level indicator, Bliss transitions seamlessly from an attractive sofa to a safety raft, ready to whisk you away.
Impeccably designed and thoughtfully handcrafted, the Bliss sofa and ottoman are as striking as they are functional. Bliss comes with a paddle attachment, rocket flare, and emergency strobe. The accompanying ottoman includes a user’s manual, sunscreen, and martini mixology kit complete with olives.
Considering sustainability as part of the fabrication process, the frame was constructed using reclaimed 200-year-old pine. The covering is made with water-resistant Sunbrella fabrics, designed with long-lasting durability and multi-occasion use in mind.
