Welcome to 'McCanners of New York', a series that delves into the lives of the talent behind McCann New York's greatest work. Featuring employees across departments and various roles, this series is an exploration of their personal stories, side-hustles, passions and the projects they cherish.
'McCanners of New York' offers a glimpse into the lives of these talented advertisers, showcasing both their professional and personal journeys.
In this edition, we’re getting to know Stacy Flaum, executive integrated producer.
Stacy> I started out as a copywriter since I love writing and being a part of the creative process. And to be honest, I accidentally fell into advertising.
When I was in college, I took the test to get into Syracuse’s Newhouse School of Advertising on a whim to see if I got in. And luck be a lady, I got accepted into the advertising program.
Stacy> I love theatre and restaurants. It’s why I live in New York City. I take a great deal of pride in my NYC deals. Some may consider me the coupon queen of Manhattan (humble brag). I also love improv and spent five years taking classes at Upright Citizens Brigade which influenced me greatly as a producer...I can 'yes and' all day long so creatives and clients feel heard.
Stacy> I am extremely proud of the work we did for Microsoft ADLaM. It was a labour of love that took place over a year, where I was completely out of my comfort zone which helped me grow as a producer. We helped create a language with font designers and work closely with the creators of the language to spread the language through Africa with children's books, food packaging, posters for the schools and taxi wraps with the redesigned ADLaM display font we created together.
Stacy> My best advice is to always keep learning. Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Ask a lot of questions and find a great mentor to learn from.
Stacy> I live with my family in the Lower East Side and love the neighbourhood so very much - it's so diverse with people, food and culture. One block you will find the best watermelon slushie and three blocks down the road is the tenement museum. The neighbourhood keeps changing and is only getting better.
Stacy> This is my 26th year living in NYC, so I take this question very seriously. We are big fans of the free kayaking at Pier 25 with $5 mini golf afterwards next to the pier. It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon outside!
