AKQA alum joins network to lead global strategy for cornerstone clients L’Oréal and IKEA

McCann Worldgroup announces that the network has appointed Miriam Plon Sauer to SVP global strategy director. The former AKQA executive joins the group to take up a senior strategy role to lead brand development work across IKEA and L’Oréal brands. She will report into Harjot Singh, global chief strategy officer, McCann & McCann Worldgroup. 

“Miriam has an exceptional understanding and track record of understanding and deploying the most innovative ways of making brands captivating and indispensable to people all over the world. I am absolutely delighted that she is now part of our global strategy team. She will make us all better and smarter,” said Harjot. 

Miriam Plon Sauer joins McCann Worldgroup from AKQA, where she was the head of strategy for AKQA Europe partnering with clients such as LEGO, Netflix, Volvo, and IWC. In addition to leading the teams across Europe in setting the strategic vision for brands and creating impactful brand experiences, she was also the global strategy lead for Volvo across AKQA Group.  

With 20 years of professional experience working with strategy at both creative, digital and media agencies, Miriam has developed a deep understanding of what it takes to build and grow brands. She has become a strong advocate for a more holistic and inclusive definition of brand strategy, and for agencies assuming a greater responsibility in making brands a force for good.  

“I believe that for brands to be impactful today it is crucial not only to have a brand idea that truly resonates with people, but also to bring the idea to life through a constantly evolving set of experiences and interactions. I see this approach mirrored in the work of the McCann Worldgroup network, and I can’t wait to work with some of the best thinkers and creators to grow and nurture two of the world’s most iconic brands,” said Miriam.
