Lowkey Films Announces ‘Salvable’ Is in the Final Stages of Albert Certification
Production wrapped in Wales on boxing crime-drama Salvable in spring, starring Toby Kebbell (For All Mankind, RocknRolla), Shia LaBeouf (Fury) and James Cosmo (Game Of Thrones).
With post production in the final stages, Lowkey Films announces that the film is in the final stages of Albert certification.
Lowkey was founded by Jamie Gamache and Connor O’Hara in part as a response to the toxicity in the film industry, including a lack of consideration for sustainable filmmaking. They firmly believe that creative excellence comes from putting people and the planet first.
The Albert certification process started many months before production started. A number of principal crew members, including producer Jamie, attended Albert training and it was a priority that the production office had members who had completed Albert certification on previous productions. A key feature of the programme is building sustainability into the process, so that it becomes seamless with production, and cast and crew take these greener practices onto future productions. Green memos were sent out to all cast and crew prior to filming, with daily memos included with every call sheet - consistency is key!
One of the most exciting elements to note, particularly to independent filmmakers, is the financial savings made. Avoiding costs of disposable cutlery, cups etc, encouraging crew to bring their own water bottles and flasks. Other departments also benefited - the majority of costumes were sourced second hand, rented or were used items from costume stock. Camera, lighting and sound departments made significant savings on battery costs by using rechargeable batteries.
Jamie noted the surprise of crew members at how the smallest, and often most beneficial changes, made huge differences to the carbon footprint of production. For instance using remote video calls for meetings in place of extensive travel. The shoot primarily hired local crew in Wales, including in senior roles. Aside from massively reducing miles travelled to and from set, it was great to invest in the local filmmaking industry, particularly in some of the more rural areas of shooting.
Whilst every measure was made to reduce the production's carbon footprint, there was of course a footprint that has been offset through Albert’s offset partner enabling the production to meet its goal of carbon neutrality.
Outside of this production Lowkey have made major strides with their pledge to sustainability, recently completing their B-Corp certification. They are proud to be leading the way for inclusive, equitable and regenerative business. Lowkey has a number of features in development, alongside their short-form work, and are proud to keep proving that independent film-making can be done sustainably.
