Show racks up audience of over 5million

The BBC called upon Lola to recreate the devastating eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii and nearby Herculaneum in 79 AD.

This one-off documentary was shown on BBC1 last night where Dr Margaret Mountford reveals the unique set of circumstances that led to the remarkable preservation of the city and its inhabitants.

Director Chris Holt worked closely with Lola’s VFX supervisor Max Wright to design dramatic, visceral shots of the tragic events that froze Pompeii’s citizens in ash for centuries.
CG Supervisor Rhys Williams built a pre-eruption Mount Vesuvius and the surrounding terrain and a team led by Joe Cork added layers of live action volcanoes, high speed cloud tank footage and specially shot ash and debris plates in Nuke.

The show racked up a huge audience of over 5 million last week and is to coincide with the current exhibition at the British Museum: Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
