Lime, the world’s largest shared electric vehicle company, today unveiled its Ride Replay for 2023, showcasing how top riders around the world used Lime to get around. Returning for its second year, Ride Replay is Lime’s annual year-in-review celebration for riders to look back at their year of traveling sustainably with Lime. As a fun new edition for 2023, Lime traced ridership data to cultural moments that defined the year to showcase how people used its bikes and scooters to see the two biggest pop stars of the year perform in cities around the world.
“2023 was a defining year for Lime and our dedicated riders were fundamental to our continued breakthrough as an essential service in cities globally,” said Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime. “Ride Replay is one of our favourite ways to acknowledge and celebrate the impact of everyone who took a trip with us this year. After surpassing 500 million lifetime trips in 2023, we’re looking forward to continuing to be an integral part of our riders’ daily lives next year, while providing a safe, affordable and sustainable solution for cities aiming to decarbonise their transportation networks.
Ride Replay: 2023 by the numbers
Lime riders took well over 100 million rides in 2023, across more than 280 cities in nearly 30 countries on five continents, traveling over 160 million miles (270 million km).
The global impact of Lime’s riders in 2023 is undeniable. Riders around the globe:
● Avoided 14K metric tons of Co2 emissions
● Spared 1.6M gallons of gas (6.1M litres) from being consumed
● Replaced over 33M car trips
The surge in ridership this year also helped Lime surpass 500 million lifetime trips, becoming the first shared electric vehicle operator to reach this major milestone. By taking half of a billion rides, Limes riders have replaced an estimated 125 million car trips, avoided an estimated 50,000 metric tons of carbon emissions and travelled more than 600 million miles, or nearly one billion kilometres.
Eras vs. Renaissance
Lime’s Ride Replay isn't just about measuring riders’ impact this year; it's also a celebration of pop culture moments that defined 2023.
In the US, riders showed their love for pop-culture phenomenon Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour with a 33% increase in total rides year-over-year when Taylor played in a city. Lime also saw a 34% increase in new accounts opened year-over-year and a 41% increase in first-rides taken year-over-year when Taylor was in town.
Cincinnati took the Swiftie crown, with a 200% uptick in total rides year-over-year during the Eras Tour shows there. Tampa also showed their Swiftie love with a 180% uptick in new accounts year-over-year while the Eras Tour was in town. While Seattle experienced a 165% uptick in first time rides year-over-year during the tour dates.
Not to be outdone, Limes riders also pledged allegiance to the BeyHive, showing their fandom for Beyoncé during her most recent global Renaissance tour. On her European tour dates,
Lime saw a 143% uptick in total rides year-over-year. In cities like Frankfurt, Lime saw a 49% uptick in total rides and a 46% uptick in first time rides. During Beyoncé's North American tour, Lime saw a 24% uptick year-over year in total rides with standout cities like Chicago seeing a 186% uptick in total rides year-over-year.
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour were major moments in which people turned to e-bikes and e-scooters over cars to reach musical magic while cruising through the city streets - leading to more sustainable travel and less traffic. The incorporation of these pop culture events into Lime’s annual Ride Replay franchise reflects Lime’s commitment to creating not just a means of transportation but memorable moments that resonate with its diverse and passionate community.
As Lime reflects on 2023, the company is also gearing up for an exciting future in 2024. With plans for expansion, doubling down on social impact programs, continued innovation, and a stronger commitment to providing the best possible riding experience, Lime is poised to make an even greater impact in the coming year.
