Leo Leigh tells the story of Bella and Lucas for storytelling App called Alexander. The App features different authors who have written a short essay which you can either read or listen.
This particular essay is by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld and was read by Emma Corrin.
The piece is about Marieke’s childhood, and how a family friend brought a copy of the computer game The Sims over to their family home. In the game Marieke creates a boy Sim called Lucas and falls madly in love with the computer game character Bella Goth. Somesuch created a real-life dolls house miniature in the same style as The Sims to tell this story. It plays into The Sims aesthetic and also the childhood toy idea.
Leo Leigh said: "This advert was made to promote the Alexander app.The idea is that each essay / article has a film that accompanies it. Look studios who we worked with on this gave me complete creative freedom to come up with and execute the idea. I hope making car adverts is the same!
“This was the first time I had worked with model making and miniatures. We only had two weeks to build and shoot the film so it was intense, but gave the whole thing a spontaneity which I think is important sometimes. It was also nice that the talent in front of the camera couldn't talk back. I watched a lot of Thomas the Tank Engine and Terrahawks to prep for this job. Well more than usual.”
