Amid the preparations for a general election, the Labour party has teamed up with ad agency Lucky Generals to release a series of satirical posters that hit quite close to home. The campaign comes at perfect timing, as the UK government plunges the nation into a new crisis that deepens by the day, following prime minister Liz Truss’ U-turn on tax cuts, and increasing talks about her resignation.
Consisting of four posters, the campaign accuses the Tory government of ruining Britain’s standing on the world stage, displaying statements such as ‘Send off the clowns’, ‘These dummies have crashed the economy’, ‘Britain’s reputation in tatters’ and ‘Your mortgage is going through the roof’. Some of the posters’ more striking imagery involves Truss and Jeremy Hunt, the new chancellor, dressed as clowns, as well as Truss and ex-chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng as crash dummies sitting together in a car.
Placing the blame firmly at the Conservatives’ feet for forcing thousands of “hard working families to pay an extra of £500 a month on their mortgage”, the campaign promises that only Labour has a plan to help and actively restore the UK’s standing in world politics.
Lucky Generals commented: “These are early concepts that have been tabled for discussion with the Labour communications team, as we gear up and get ready for a general election. They may be satirical, but they reflect what many people are feeling about the chaos that has been caused by the Conservative administration, and the terrible price that the people of Britain are having to pay for such incompetence.
A Labour source said: “As the old saying goes, if you don’t laugh, you cry. The fact the Tories have crashed the economy is deadly serious. Just look at the way the Tories have pushed up mortgage rates. We love these ideas from Lucky Generals that show only Labour can be trusted with the economy these days.”
