Burn Baby Burn has been created to solve how the ad industry’s 24/7 working culture may be affecting our creativity

How far are employees in the creative industries meant to stretch themselves before burn-out kicks in? And what permanent damage could our industry’s ‘always-on’ culture do to their creativity? With a soaring number of creatives experiencing professional burn-out, in one form or another, it would seem high time to lift the lid on this taboo. To address this topic, BURN BABY BURN, a panel discussion and forum will take place on June 6th 2017 at Zoku in Amsterdam.

For many working in the creative industry the 9-5 is a myth rather than a reality and with a mobile phone in hand switching off has become difficult.

However, according to media mogul Ariana Huffington: "Nothing kills creativity, intuition and originality faster than sleep deprivation and burnout.”

That’s why Amsterdam creative agency Kingsday’s first-hand burn-out survivors Christiana Courtright, Senior Social Strategist, and Emily Creek, Business Director will be discussing the matter in an informal panel discussion. Insights will be shared by mental health professionals, those who have been to burn-out and back, as well as employers juggling employee health vs. results, giving audience members the chance to actively participate and take steps towards a healthier work-life balance.

Christiana Courtright, Senior Social Strategist, Kingsday states:

“The reason we are spearheading this initiative is that both myself and my co-host Emily have experienced burn-out in the past. Both of us felt it was a taboo subject to discuss – yet when you scratch under the surface it seems to be something that everyone in the creative industries and beyond has experienced. We want to create a healthy dialogue around this unspoken topic - and ultimately work out how to create a healthier work life balance in an industry that only too often has a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude.”

Sander Volten, Managing Director, Kingsday, commented:

“When my partners and I set up Kingsday, we had the chance to build a working environment from the ground up and to design a construct that would get incredible results in a sustainable way. We strongly believe that empowering our people, giving them responsibility and autonomy from the get-go  – and focusing on output as opposed to hours – is the way forward. We even have a rule that we never pitch on a Monday to avoid our people sacrificing their weekends.”

Other speakers are clinical psychologist Tiffany Gordon and de-stress and recharge coach Annelies Vette.

There is still space for additional panelists, if you are interested please email: christiana@kingsday.com
