An over-the-top sandwich requires an over-the-top execution.
KFC fans have been clamouring for the iconic Double Down sandwich to return to the menu, and after a ten-year hiatus, the bunless menu item is back - for four weeks only.
To celebrate its return, MullenLowe put a spin on Major Lazer’s hit song, ‘Bubble Butt’ and paired it with off-the-wall visuals for a trippy tribute to the world’s greatest sandwich with fried chicken for buns. The spot lives up to the name, Double Down, bringing all the energy to convey the eye-bulging excitement of its return with eccentric effects like talking socks and a dancing cactus set to an upbeat track.
The hotly debated menu item has been available since March 6th for a limited time only, and has already been reviewed by food critics, generating a lot of hype. The spot will be broadcasted on Monday, March 13th.
MullenLowe Boston group creative director, Enrique Camacho said, “KFC’s Double Down is the most over-the-top sandwich ever conceived. We wanted to match that energy with equally over-the-top creative executions. Basically, we just got weird with it and the results were a lot of fun.”
KFC US CMO, Nick Chavez said, "The Double Down is one of the most buzzworthy fast food menu items ever. After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we're embracing the chaos, bringing back our most iconic sandwich ever for just four weeks."
