Today sees the launch of Asylum, a new, single camera comedy for BBC4, conceived by Kayvan Novak (Facejacker, Cuban Fury, Four Lions, Inside Number 9) and producer Tom Thostrup. Kayvan also stars as Rafael.
Inspired by the true stories of whistleblowers claiming asylum, we find our two protagonists (Dan and Ludo) under the threat of extradition, stuck in a fictional central-American embassy in London. Dan Hern, played by Ben Miller (Dr Who, Armstrong and Miller Show) is a serious, self-important egotist who is accused of leaking important documents, whilst Ludo Backslash, played by Dustin Demri-Burns (Cardinal Burns) is a larger than life, childish hacker who set up a file sharing website and became public enemy number one amongst the global entertainment community. They are very much the classic odd couple.
Grand Central's Tristan Rose worked on the ADR for BBC's Asylum: "I am very pleased to have been involved in this project. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the talented team of Ben Miller, Yasmine Akram, Niky Wardley and Jorge Gaitan, all of whom came to our studios to record dialogue.
My focus is always on matching the pitch, vocal tone, and loudness of projection, and this requires me to tailor my work to the performance of the actor. If the viewer doesn't realise that the dialogue has been replaced then I am very happy with my contribution.
On this series, we had to recreate some exterior scenes which can be tricky to do in the studio but we're all very pleased with the results.
There are various techniques you can use make post sync sound plausible but the performance from the actor needs to be of a high standard in the first place. During the ADR sessions for Asylum the actors did a great job."
