The spot also features a seasonally busy Mariah Carey, as well as the US Men’s National team and (American) footballing GOAT, Tom Brady

As we approach an unusually festive World Cup, the US Men’s National Team are hoping to be kissing the World Cup trophy under the mistletoe this Christmas.

Following on from the July spot that saw Jon Hamm’s Father Christmas bewildered at the irregular clash between his time of the year and the world’s largest sporting event, this new spot promoting Fox Sports' FIFA World Cup coverage is a rather early Christmas present - but we’re definitely not complaining.

Unlike the usual summer timing for the World Cup, 2022’s greatly-anticipated event will take place in Qatar during the winter, with all games occurring between 20 November and 18 December. It’s a little close for comfort for Hamm’s Santa - but that doesn’t stop him from spreading some Christmas cheer to the US National Team fans, let’s just hope they provide a little more cheer than they’ve become known for…

Directed by Hungry Man’s Wayne McClammy - someone who is familiar with Jon Hamm - the film shows Santa coming around to the idea that a Christmas World Cup might not be the worst thing after all. Helped by Mrs Claus (played by Ellie Kemper), the originally not-so-jolly St. Nick becomes more and more optimistic as his workshop begins stitching Mbappé shirts, crafting Messi decorations and inflating Neymar lights.

Fortunately for all of you that love to Hamm it up - there is another entry in this sporting Santa series yet to come, as Fox Sports begins to ramp up its World Cup coverage promotion. Although Mariah Carey might be too busy to watch the USMNT at the tournament - or write a song for this spot - and Tom Brady too focused on awaiting Cristiano Ronaldo’s retirement, American ‘soccer’ fans are hoping for a Christmas miracle this World Cup.
