London-born Mary Nighy is a graduate of The National Film and Television School, where she was a David Lean Scholar. She has directed films for Vogue, Karen Millen, River Island, City of London, and made one of the winning films in Bombay Sapphire’s Imagination Series, ‘Need for Speed’, produced by Independent Films and Gravity Rd. Her work is a combination of cinematic and performance-led narrative films. Mary worked professionally as an actress from the age of 17, and was nominated as one of the UK Film Council’s Breakthrough Brits and as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2005. She gained experience in directing theatre whilst at UCL, and then professionally at The Soho Theatre. This background as an actor, and her experience directing theatre, allows her to draw strong performances from both actors and non-actors. Mary is also a writer, and has written long-form narrative scripts as well as advertising copy for direct-to-client projects.
