In Conversation with DENTSU CREATIVE US’ Flavia Dechandt Araujo

Experiential account supervisor discusses why having a creative mindset is essential to her role

In Conversation with DENTSU CREATIVE US’ Flavia Dechandt Araujo

Growing up in a family of musicians and athletes gave Flavia Dechandt Araujo a unique perspective on how to express herself, visualise her goals and earn career success.

Q> How is your job uniquely creative?

Flavia> Our projects introduce us to new elements every week, so having a creative mindset is vital for visualizing, adapting and reimagining. I strive to create efficiencies that enable and empower creativity, so we can bring our full selves to the table and team up with extraordinary people who encourage new thinking through their unique stories. That’s where we see results that have most meaningful creative impact. I love exploring possibilities and collaborating everywhere I can.

Q> Tell us about your career path?

Flavia> I started my career as a competitive tennis player (professional and then college at the University of Arkansas). After earning my business degree, I worked in global brand marketing, communications, corporate reputation and organizational leadership. I also completed the entrepreneurship and innovation MBA program at the Walton Graduate School of Business. I have now been with Dentsu Creative since 2018, spending three years in public relations and then taking on experiential marketing and brand activation projects.

Q> What advice would you give your younger self?

Flavia> Work hard, but don’t be too hard on yourself. It takes great resilience, grit and focus to pursue and accomplish goals. And to make sure you can go the distance, practicing self-kindness and balance is a must.

Q> What is something that inspires you?

Flavia> I grew up in a family of musicians and athletes, so I have always been motivated by creative ways to express yourself. Whether it’s the adapted chords to a favorite song or the finesse in style of play, music adds color to life moments. And sports bring back that same excitement I had on the court, keeping that fire alive as I navigate new seasons in life.

Q> What was your dream job when you were younger?

Flavia> I really wanted to be an astronaut, then an architect, then a professional tennis player ... I eventually got one right and you never know about the other two!!

Q> What TV show are you currently binging?

Flavia> “Friends” on repeat! Like, every year since I can remember. I also love documentaries and watching the work of masterful storytellers.

Q> What is your superpower?

Flavia> I'm very good with LEGO sets.

Q> Bucket list item?

Flavia> Go to the Olympic Games and all major tennis championships.

Q> What is your theme song?

Flavia> Not sure about a theme song, but my dad did compose a song for me: "Flávia Jogando Bola" by Flávio Franco Araujo. Check it out! :)

Q> One thing that makes you happy?

Flavia> Quality time with family and friends. Or breakfast.
