IF designs the credit sequence for Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+

Imaginary Forces, known for their iconic title sequences, has created another much-talked-about sequence for the hit show Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. The long-awaited adaptation of the beloved Rick Riordan series gets a main-on-end title sequence fit for the Gods. Journey through a mural depicting American landscapes, ending of course at Mt. Olympus - in New York City. The iconic themes of Percy Jackson’s world are reimagined as images that could live in the lobby of the Empire State Building.

“It was exciting to work on such an iconic property that is beloved by a huge fan base”, said Tosh Kodama, creative director. “To that respect, we created a title sequence that captures an impression of Percy’s journey that’s authentic to the Greek influence but rooted in a uniquely American art form.”

Watch the epic title, showcasing the Diego Rivera-inspired art and the refined craftsmanship still alive in design today. There are countless classic Americana themes to pay attention to, while also taking in the grandeur of the mural that is fit for Mt. Olympus.

“From the beginning, we were captivated by the idea of crafting a mural to depict events in the Percy Jackson timeline,” said Karin Fong, creative director and founding member of Imaginary Forces. “One by Diego Rivera had captured our imagination–there’s just something about the mix of scales and perspectives that speaks to telling a story of mythic proportions. At the same time, the style of the Empire State Building was also a north star for visual inspiration.”

It’s a wall-to-wall fantasy and adventure on Disney+. Imaginary Forces takes the audience on an epic road trip in classic Art Deco style by merging Greek mythology with American landmarks. Fong continues, “We turned to Art Deco as a language that could be used to stylise our characters and places in a way that is both modern and classic. We like to think that this mural is a way of immortalising the series, a paean to the monumental story!” By hinting at the moments that speak to Percy’s story, the sequence has plenty for fans to discover.

“In a way, this is the map to the ultimate road trip – one where Greek heroes and monsters blend into the American landscape. It’s both revisiting where we’ve been but also hinting at things to come”, said Karin. “One of the best parts of designing the sequence was finding ways to layer in the story’s symbols and meanings into this dense, living mural. We’re hoping audiences find more meaning each time they watch it.”

Karin Fong and Tosh Kodama have worked together previously on other epic sequences such as the now iconic Spider-Man: No Way Home.
