INFLUENCER: Ogilvy Dubai’s Elizabeth Dewar on building a new kind of future for the industry

I have a dream that one day this industry will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: that we can hold these truths to be self-evident, and that creatives from every background are seen as equal.

I have a dream that one day by the red carpet on the Croisette, the creatives of former agencies and the management of former agencies will be able to sit down together at a table of rosé, in sister and brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even in an industry, an industry sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of sexism, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom, justice and equal pay.

I have a dream that one day my ideas will be brought to life, and that my fellow creatives and I will not be judged only by the colour of our metal but by the content of our portfolios, and our character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Cannes, with its vicious hierarchies, with its governors whose lips drip with the words of “Grand Prix" and “investing in talent" - one day right there in Cannes, creative boys and girls will be able to join hands with their clients and celebrate their work as a team.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every agency shall be exalted, and above all, every concept and solution shall be made hero, the briefs will be made plain, and egos will be made humble; "and the glory of the idea shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."

This is my hope, and this is the faith that I go back to my department with.

With this faith, we will all be able to hew out of the mountain of antiquated systems a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our industry into a beautiful symphony of brother and sisterhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to craft together, to struggle together, to go change the world with our creativity together, to stand up for ideas together, knowing that we will be free one day of the shackles of the past.
