The artistic talent hub moves from strength to strength as they add a new global creative director to their leadership team

Hotspring, the global platform for discovering and collaborating with international VFX talent, has appointed Nico Cotta as global creative director. Nico's main priority at Hotspring will be to expand the company's global network of high-end creative teams and oversee the execution of outstanding creative work on Hotspring. Nico has extensive VFX industry experience: he started his VFX career as a flame artist working in Paris in 1994 then moved to Canada to work at Hybride. Nico later became a lead compositor at Framestore, then VFX supervisor at MPC, and Smoke & Mirrors.

With almost 30 years of experience in the VFX industry, Nico has founded two companies: independent post-production boutique CherryCherry VFX in 2010 and Blaze, a remote post-production solution in 2018. From his own experiences working internationally with CherryCherryVFX and Blaze, Nico has the personal belief that higher quality of VFX work is created when work is democratised and unconstrained by geographical boundaries.

Commenting on the appointment, Jon Mason, co-founder and CEO at Hotspring said: “Sometimes you meet someone and things just click. That’s what happened with Nico. We’ve both been chipping away at the same problems for years. We share a vision for how to build a better VFX industry, so teaming up was a natural fit. Nico will contribute massively to the creative leadership of the team. He is the perfect person to continue to expand our incredible network of high-end creative artists around the world.”

Nico is excited to join Hotspring. He said: “I am honoured to join Hotspring as a global creative director. I’ve been a champion of the remote working lifestyle for many years but there has been an accelerated digital transformation since the pandemic. The shift to remote work has shown apprehensive studios that creative professionals can be agile and productive when working away from the office. Hotspring empowers artists around the world; the more access studios have to the best talent, the bigger the whole pie gets. Ben, Jon, and the rest of the team get this and are proving there’s a better way to work. With Hotspring’s platform, artists can design a career that fits their lifestyle, which I believe is the biggest step towards breaking down social barriers to success. At Hotspring, I look forward to facilitating the creation of outstanding work with creative, empowered VFX professionals for the most ambitious studios around the world.”

Nico’s appointment comes after a stretch of continuous growth for Hotspring in 2021 and early 2022. With Nico joining Hotspring, the company continues to strengthen its management team to nurture its international talent and sustain high-quality client work.
