Avios took over an entire Channel 4 commercial break on Friday (25/7), with a new spot that has been graded by Finish’s Paul Harrison, with David Clifton and Andy Copping on Flame. The 3-minute film, directed by Ed Sayers through Independent for agency 101 London, is a heartwarming quest to turn travel rewards points into gifts for those who need them most.
In the spot for the travel rewards company, comedian Chris Ramsay embarks on an extravagant shopping spree in aid of a great cause. ‘The Avios Big Reward’ intends to reward 50 lucky nominees with a pair of flight tickets for British Airways.
The comedian devotes a day to spending £250,000 on a host of items which are then donated to Avios’ charity partners. The reward points earned from the shopping spree are then converted into flight tickets for fifty deserving winners.
Friends and family submitted nominations for people who have done something special for them, including carers, inspirations and Rosemary - an elderly lady who saved the lives of 30 soldiers from the D-Day landing.
Finish worked on the campaign’s grade and post-production, further enhancing what is already a beautiful concept.
Paul Harrison, who graded the film, said “the grade had to be beautiful and rich but not look like it was graded to have a strong look that would detract from the film.”
“We had quite a lot to do in the time available. There are a lot of different locations in the film that needed to be massaged together to create a more harmonious flow to the piece. We worked hard to ensure that it flowed seamlessly.”
Paul added “The transition from the first shot to the last work, and at no point does the viewer question the passage of time, nor does one realise that in reality it was shot over a couple of days.”
Alongside the initial film are 90, 60 and two 20 second spots.
