The latest installation of Call of Duty launched this week, and Activision joined forces with Loaded to launch a game on Twitter so fans could get a taste for what’s new.
Not only is Black Ops II set in the future, but the game develops depending on each player’s actions, not a pre-determined story. Each player creates his or her own narrative and unique events based on choices made along the way.
Before launch, fans could find this out for themselves on Twitter through a low tech Twitter game that sent them off on a Black Ops II-style mission. The mission begins at @PlayBo2Mission and Twitter players get a true ‘Call of Duty’ experience in every tweet. Players encounter enemies with cloaking devices, can hack into gun turrets and can use new technology such as EMP grenades. Succeed, retrieve the intel, and win glory. Fail, and get sent back to the start.
For a limited time after launch, players could enter a competition to win a special ‘Hardened’ edition of the game or tickets to the UK Black Ops II launch party.
The game went live last Wednesday (7 Nov) and can be played for a few more days. It was created by integrated agency Five by Five, who have been working with Activision on Black Ops II pre-launch activity.
