kbs+ create cameo-laden spot for skateboarding arm of sports brand
Known for its unique and edgy style, skateboarding holds a legendary place in popular culture. Nike is tapping into this theme by enlisting legendary athletes for its latest video spot for the Nike Koston 2, the latest installment of the Koston shoe line, inspired by pro-skateboarder Eric Koston.
To help communicate Nike’s vision, the brand looked to Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners (kbs+) to bring Koston’s legendary presence to life in a folklore fashion as the athlete celebrates his 20th year of professional skateboarding. It’s the first time Nike SB (Skateboarding) has used an agency of kbs+’s size and stature for a campaign.
Set to launch online and on TV during the Tampa Pro on March 22nd, the spot mixes amazing tricks, courtesy of Koston, with a lighthearted tale supported by some of the world’s best skateboarders and iconic athletes such as Tiger Woods, Olympic Gold Medalist Alyson Felix and The Cleveland Cavalier’s Kyrie Irving, just to name a few.
In a series of shots, the athletes tell the “legend” of Eric Koston, including how he skated past security guards, angry dogs, and even dodged tasers to eventually catch a falling baby – all while performing daredevil hijinks.
The fun spot was built with love by the recently formed kbs+ Action Sports and Lifestyle Brands Group, a team of daily participants dedicated to the spirit and sensibilities of enthusiast categories. kbs+ is the only NYC-based, full-service agency with a department dedicated solely to action sports, lifestyle brands and enthusiast culture.
