British rapper Big Zuu - signed to eOne Music - continues to boldly occupy his own lane within the UK music scene, delivering yet another strong single in what has already been an incredible year for the rapper. ‘Great to Be’ is a more diverse offering that sees Zuu broadening his horizons to deliver a wholesome number, filled with hope and emotion in abundance. The song bounces back and forth in time, detailing Zuu's difficult upbringing and his current winning mindset, whilst sending a positive message of achieving your dreams to listeners and praising the work of our public sector staff.
The song was premiered by DJ Target on BBC 1xtra last week who proclaimed on-air, "We need records like this, we need music like this, we need artists like yourself bro – especially in times like these!"
The single is complemented with an equally impressive music video that was predominantly shot at the legendary Hackney Empire and directed by Will Ainsworth. Delving into the concept behind the video Will explains: “We began analysing the song and quickly understood the need to deliver a message that referenced him working hard, setting goals, creating opportunities and ultimately showing him forging a path to success whilst also giving the audience the opportunity to understand that it is possible to follow in his footsteps."
Will continues: "The song is somewhat a guide for the youth, this is something he has pushed from the beginning of his career, messages of hope, wisdom and success – sure he can spit fire bars, but very few UK rappers actually stand up and offer guidance to their fans through their lyrics.”
With the second season of his UKTV cooking show 'Big Zuu’s Big Eats' confirmed, a plethora of TV and Radio appearances throughout 2020 in the bag, and massive support from Spotify, GRM Daily and BBC Radio, it’s clear to see that through relentless hard work and ambition, this young Londoner’s inspirational messages have made it from the underground Grime scenes to the households of the nations.
