After several busy years that included remote work and two temporary office spaces, the Eggplant team is now together again in their newly renovated space on Queen Street East. Founded in 2001, The Eggplant is a global audio collective known for its innovative approach to sound, music, and words, creating impactful audio experiences across media worldwide.
For the team, the move represents more than just a change of address. “This move is incredibly meaningful for us,” said Adam Damelin, partner at The Eggplant. “After going through Covid, hybrid work, and then 18 months in a rented space while renovating our new building, it feels like a family reunion. Being together again allows us to collaborate in ways that simply aren't possible over screens. We're more than just colleagues; we're a family.”
The new offices at 358 Queen St E., designed by Commute Design Studio—renowned for crafting interiors for some of Toronto’s most celebrated restaurants, including Alo and Oretta, as well as upscale residential spaces—blend comfort and style seamlessly. The result is a welcoming, homey, and hospitable environment where clients and staff can enjoy a uniquely relaxing workspace that combines functionality with a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
The Eggplant is led by four partners: Nicola Treadgold, partner and executive producer; Rocco Gagliese, partner and director; Adam Damelin, partner and director; and Dave Conlon, partner and CFO. With a full-time staff of 20, The Eggplant collaborates with a vast network of award-winning composers, bands, and artists. The company’s “family-first” philosophy is evident in its collaborative approach, with each project crafted with care, creativity, and a deep connection to the work.
“There’s an energy in this space that just can’t be replicated,” added Nicola. “This is where ideas flow freely, and projects come to life with all of us in sync.”
Eggplant’s commercial film portfolio has always featured a huge range of high-profile projects, going back to Snickers’ "Sword," Gain’s Super Bowl ad "Gainiac," starring Craig Robinson, and Bell’s celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Other standout work includes Guinness’ St. Patrick’s Day live countdown featuring a full orchestra, Nissan Rogue’s "Winter Warrior," and Canadian Tire’s emotional "Runway" spot. The momentum has continued into 2024 with campaigns for Ford, Scotiabank, Kicking Horse Coffee, Bell, Skip the Dishes, Toyota, and a Cannes-winning campaign for Kit Kat —to name just a few.
In addition to commercials, The Eggplant has contributed to notable long-format projects. For CBC, the team rebranded the audio components for its entire news package, including prominent programs like The National and The Fifth Estate. They served as music supervisors for all three seasons of Hulu’s original series The Hardy Boys, which earned accolades such as the 2024 Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program. The Eggplant also handled sound design and mixing for Code 8, the short film that launched a successful franchise. Additionally, in the kids’ space, they’ve collaborated with the likes of Dr John, Taj Mahal, and Arthur creator, Marc Brown, on themes and score, as well as winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song.
