Multi award-winning sister companies Bark Soho and Eclectic Music’s latest feature-doc is premiering on Channel 4 later this evening.
Directed by Nick Read and Ayse Toprak, this 90 minute film tells the inspirational story of Mutlu, a gifted 18 year old woman poised to conquer the Turkish music scene by participating in the country’s popular talent show, ‘Sesi Çok Güzel’. She is the clear favourite to win the competition's final round when tragedy strikes. Mutlu is shot in the head at point blank range by her jealous partner, incensed that she had refused his marriage proposal.
A compelling portrayal of her arduous road to recovery, the film documents Multu’s unwavering resilience as she learns to walk, talk, and even sing again. Now a TikTok star, Multu has built a new support network through the platform, proving that she is not alone on her path to recovery. It’s an unflinching examination of the strength of the human spirit and the power of resilience.
Like many other collaborations between the two companies over the last 10 years, the team had complete control over all aspects of audio - music, sound design, and mixing, including producing Mutlu’s first single since the attempted murder. This kind of collaboration is unusual but very effective. As Simon Elms - composer at Eclectic and director of Bark - describes, ‘Having complete control of all of the audio is a liberating process - it means that all of the different audio components can complement each other rather than competing with one another. It saves so much time and energy and can be so much more effective’.
Definitely worth a watch.
