The BMW Art Journey is an initiative of BMW and ART BASEL, sending artists around the globe, inviting them to do their magic in different places around the globe. REKORDER is producing this ongoing series and has accompanied the artists ever since the project started in 2015.
Part of the series is 'Studio Visits', where artists are being portrayed in their home studios.
For the latest episode director Werner Klemm met artist Max Hooper Schneider in the middle of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Produced remotely, the film is a homage to the unconventional artist. It’s a portrait of Schneider just as well as it is a form of poetry and art in itself.
Max has a background in landscape architecture as well as marine biology and indeed, one can find his scientific investigations accentuate the depth of his eccentric works. He explores the relationship between philosophy and nature, the personal and the political, between destruction and construction, and what he calls ‘’nonhuman and human agents’'.
