Carat sits down with Celeste in the US to find out about her first job and what a typical working day looks like

Welcome to Designing with EQ by Carat. In this series we take a closer look at the unique backgrounds, passions, and talents that make up the agency team, and how they come together to design for people and brands. 

For September’s edition, we sat down with content manager, Celeste Escalante. Read on for an overview of Celeste’s workday and the many forms of content she gets to collaborate on. 


Q> What was your first job? What was the most important skill/lesson you learned? 

Celeste> My first job was working at a small boutique in my hometown where I was exposed to all different types of people and personalities. I learned customer service skills and how to treat everyone with the same level of care and respect. I gained valuable people skills that I use in my role today. 


Q> What does a typical workday look like for you? 

Celeste> Not every day looks the same, which keeps the job exciting. For example, today I started with a brainstorm to come up with ideas for a brand based on their goals. Next, I will be working on a recommendation deck and building out a strategy for a completely different brand. Days can go from reviewing creative and scripts to attending virtual shoots. I can talk about paper towels one day, and men’s shaving products the next day. Last year we got to work on a song with Lil Baby and H.E.R so that was more of a robust production. It is crazy to get to see the various ways that content can come to life. 

We always say content is like a snowflake and there are so many versions and forms — from movie scripts to song lyrics. I get to work with it all.


Q> How would you describe your job to a child? 

Celeste> I get to tell really cool stories through the TV, tablet, cell phone, and beyond.


Q> What is your favourite aspect of Carat?

Celeste> My team. I feel super lucky to be surrounded by so many different leaders and everyone is so collaborative and supportive. I get to learn from people who have been in the industry for many years, which is so valuable as I grow in my career. 


Q> Working at Carat I’m designing for ____?

Celeste> When I think about my day-to-day job, I am designing for people like you and me. Especially being on the account I am on and getting to work with everyday brands. I feel that I am getting to be a part of peoples’ daily lives based on the products I market.
