Dear Friend has welcomed Andrew Litten for Canadian film representation. Andrew’s work oozes cool - poetic in its rhythm, purposeful in its intent. His films move with a distinct tempo, where every frame, technique, and performance feels deeply considered, making his work feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Andrew, who launched his career as a commercial director at Voyager, followed by STINK in the US, has built a reputation for bold, visually arresting work. His films have been recognised by the Clio Awards, Cannes Lions’ Young Director Award, Camerimage, Shots Awards, 1.4 Awards, Young Guns, and more. Shaped by Atlanta’s underground music and fashion scenes, he continues to blur the lines between fiction and nonfiction, crafting stories that challenge reality as we know it.
Before their first collaboration, the Dear Friend team connected with Andrew over a shared love of film, photography, and visual storytelling. "We actually went to TIFF with Andrew right before he shot his first spot with us, and quite honestly, we just enjoyed each other's company," says Mark Chisholm, executive producer at Dear Friend. "I remember spending an evening reminiscing about old skateboard films that inspired us as young filmmakers and realising how many similarities we shared as creatives and as humans. Aside from being a talented filmmaker, this is imperative to successful working relationships - you also want to feel inspired by them as people."
That creative connection carried into Impossible Choices, their debut project together for the Salvation Army - where they translated those early conversations into a powerful, cinematic piece.
"Reading through their brief, I immediately thought of my own mother. She didn’t have much, but put on a smile every day and made my dreams come true without flinching at adversity. Now that I'm older, I understand that the courage she had to do so is unparalleled. All of this came flooding back to me while reading Grey’s script for Salvation Army, and I knew I had to pitch on it. Those are the kind of sparks I’m after when reading a brief." said Andrew Litten.
Andrew puts his heart and personal experiences into all his work, seeking out stories that resonate on a personal level and off the set he’s as much a friend as he is a collaborator. We’re beyond excited to welcome him to the Dear Friend family
