‘Resilience Resides’, an Instagram-cast short film from new Darling Films signing Irene Baque, celebrates the much-needed courage to be comfortable in your own skin in a society that has been discriminating against women for the way they feel, look, and dress.
Released to coincide with International Women’s Day, the series of intimate vignettes showcase the resilience that it takes to navigate this world through a woman's body - from shame to assault, all the way through to sexuality, celebrating Londoners from all walks of life who have taken it upon themselves to change the path of what it means to be a woman.
“We are thrilled to have signed Irene Baque to Darling Films. Not only is she an incredible filmmaker but she gets to the heart of many of the current issues pressing on society. Her latest film ‘Resilience Resides’ exploring womanhood in society and the resilience and strength to navigate through modern life is a perfect example of this.”
A bilingual (English and Spanish) film director and photographer, Irene tells human stories, real and emotional, about underrepresented communities. Her work explores issues around identity, gender, youth culture, and social justice. Her visuals are authentic, intimate, and feminine, playing with colour and composition.
"I'm really excited to join the Darling family and start working with like-minded women on projects that we are passionate about. My film ‘Resilience Resides’ which debuts today, is a topic I feel deeply attached to,” said Irene. “To inhabit a woman’s body is in fact an act of resilience, especially in a society that always questions our way of understanding and relating to the world. Casting the talent through Instagram, each of the women has their own personal battle to overcome and I wanted to capture a snapshot of those moments.”
