At the Global Women in Marketing Awards, the Creative Marketer of the Year category recognises 'courageous creativity.' It’s hard to imagine a better description for the career of Sheila Milani, creative director for Cogs & Marvel, and this year’s award-winner.
As a first-generation Iranian-American, Sheila’s professional ethos is deeply informed by her roots. Her family came to the US when the Iranian revolution erupted, and her work consistently forefronts inclusion, authenticity, and agility. From empowering marginalised voices with her work on Long Beach Pride, to making food rescue fun with the Imperfect Foods 'Food Waste Week' roadshow, Sheila’s work illustrates the power of expansive thinking. Her approach is a testament to the vitality of narratives with dimension. Mid-way through her career, Sheila earned a master’s degree in interior architecture & design, and her understanding of how the sensory and the spatial interact is evident in the vibrant, immersive environments she creates.
Being a woman-owned business is more than a point of pride for Cogs & Marvel, it’s a responsibility. Sheila has been a vanguard for women in the industry by championing the work of the female-identifying designers she oversees; mentorship continues to be a pillar of her professional and personal ethics. In short, Sheila’s work is the kind that progresses both representation and messaging for women in marketing. The proof is in the prize.
