Company 3 K-Swiss campaign
Santa Monica, CA – August 23, 2010 – Company 3 recently completed work on a new campaign from K-Swiss via ad agency 72andSunny featuring Kenny Powers, the fictional character played by Danny McBride in the HBO series "Eastbound & Down.” The campaign, which includes national TV spots, in-theatre ads, print media, digital/interactive campaigns and outdoor, introduces the company's new "Tubes" lightweight training footwear. The campaign broke August 2 and will lead into the return of the TV series, which debuts September 26.
Powers, a slightly delusional ex-professional baseball player who has become a substitute middle school physical education teacher, is all about flaunting his "fame" and getting people to meet his ridiculous demands. The campaign kicked off with a video on Funny or Die, depicting Powers in negotiation with K-Swiss with a list of terms that include a specific type of pornography and commercial ideas that wouldn't get made even if he were the CEO.
Company 3 completed VFX and finishing for the entire campaign, using Autodesk Flame, including cleanup, beauty work and screen comps, and Company 3’s Stefan Sonnenfeld performed color grading. “72andSunny create innovative campaigns for their clients, and we’re very pleased to have been able to collaborate with them on this project for K-Swiss,” Sonnenfeld said.
Because of the high volume of the project--Company 3 delivered a total of 43 versions of the spots—management became the main challenge. “Jobs of this scale need a company with the size and resources to handle them,” said Company 3 VFX artist Glen Bennett. “We thrive under this kind of pressure, and our clients know it, which creates a huge amount of trust.”
