Carbon Films has signed director Koketso Matabane to its roster. Hailing from Johannesburg but now based in Cape Town, Koketso has become known for her sharp storytelling and idea-driven work.
“Koketso creates work with real insight and a strong voice,” says EP Kirsten Clarence. “Her background in research allows her to deeply understand creative ideas and their value, resulting in distinct and opinionated work - key assets for an up-and-coming talent.”
Koketso commented, "Carbon has always left its mark on where filmmaking has been and where it’s headed. They believe in the future - and that’s exactly where I want to be”.
Koketso’s diverse filmmaking experience has shaped her innovative approach. Her fashion film S.W.A.N.K Jozi earned global recognition, placing at the London and Berlin Fashion Film Festivals, while her latest short, Untitled Skates, celebrates young black female skaters and is making waves on the festival circuit.
Kirsten adds, “The team at Carbon is thrilled to be part of the next stage of her career. We’re excited to collaborate with her and help further expand her directing repertoire.”
