Today's winners include Mastercard’s 'Where to Settle', Apple’s ‘R.I.P. Leon’, Fondation Anne de Gaulle’s ‘Anne de Gaulle’, and more

With the final day of the Cannes Lions Festival wrapped up, we now have our winners in Change, Sustainable Development, and Film - two, as a matter of fact - as well as the winners in the Dan Wieden Titanium Lions, and the Grand Prix for Good.

From a campaign that helped displaced Ukrainians find new homes in Poland, to a fun film about a seemingly dead lizard that showcases the significance of being able to delete texts, today’s list of Cannes winners is, without a doubt, an exceptional way to wrap up what’s been an extraordinary week of advertising.

Philip Thomas, chairman, LIONS, said: “The body of Lion-winning work that emerged from the jury rooms points the way forward, and demonstrates the power of the industry to drive change, build businesses and shape society. Congratulations to all those who entered, who made the shortlists, and who won a Lion at the Festival’s 70th edition to set the creative benchmark on the global stage.”

It's all up for viewing below. And, to view the rest of this week's winners, check out our collection here!

Glass: The Lion for Change
Korean National Police Agency - Knock Knock

In the past eight years, domestic violence in South Korea has risen by 718%... but only 2% of cases are reported to the police. This is due to many factors, a critical one being people feeling unsafe to report due to being forced to share space with the abuser, and fearing worse subsequent abuse should they attempt to change anything.

For this reason, the Korean National Police Agency and Cheil Worldwide Seoul worked together to create a new system which (consisting of two phone taps) could alert the police and allow them to access the phone’s camera, all while putting the caller at the lowest risk possible.

Sustainable Development Goals Lions
Mastercard - Where to Settle

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine displacing a quarter of the country’s people within the first month, Mastercard and McCann Poland stepped in to aid the humanitarian crisis. Gleaning the insight that small Polish towns offered greater opportunity for displaced peoples, they built ‘Where to Settle’, providing each family with specific information about what each location offered, helping them begin again as easily as possible.

Film Lions
Apple - R.I.P. LEON

Have you ever sent a text that, moments after sending, you instantly regretted? Hinging on this unfortunately uncomfortable yet relatable feeling, Apple’s ‘R.I.P Leon’ shows the titular lizard, Leon, as seemingly dead, which leads to his owner sending a very uncomfortable text… yet moments later, he revives. And of course, thanks to the new delete text feature, once again, no harm equals no foul.

Film Lions jury president, Bruno Bertelli, global CEO of Le Pub, global chief creative officer of Publicis Worldwide, chief creative officer of Publicis Groupe Italy, Publicis Worldwide, Global, said: “The first Grand Prix is awarded to the best piece of work in the TV/Cinema section. This winner is a 30-second advertisement that stands out for its sharpness, focused approach, and clever twist. In this case, we aimed to acknowledge simplicity and high-quality crafting."

ITV x Calm - The Last Photo

A compilation of the last videos from people who would go on to take their own lives is as emotional as one might expect. But, it also serves as a masterfully poignant reminder from adam&eveDDB, ITV and Calm that suicidally-inclined people don’t always display stereotypically depressive behaviour… at least not on the surface. Through and through, an excellent reminder to pay close attention, as truly, it could help save a life.

Film Lions jury president, Bruno Bertelli, global CEO of Le Pub, global chief creative officer of Publicis Worldwide, chief creative officer of Publicis Groupe Italy, Publicis Worldwide, Global, said: “The second Grand Prix, awarded in the sections that cover online films and other formats, is an incredibly bold idea that required overcoming numerous challenges to execute. Despite this, it remains a straightforward piece of work.”

Dan Wieden Titanium Lions
The Government of Tuvalu - The First Digital Nation

With rising tides around the world, the country of Tuvalu is not only at risk of losing its land, but its entire status as a country. For this reason, The Monkeys worked with the country’s national government to announce its future status as a digital nation in front of the UN, putting it on the path to continued sovereignty, and providing a medium through which generations of descendants can come to know their country’s history - all while also serving as a meaningful reminder of the need for climate action.

Titanium Lions jury president: David Droga, CEO, Accenture Song, Global, said: “How does a nation that is sinking keep its borders, sovereignty and rights? How does its people keep its culture, heritage and identity? By completely reorienting the rules and laws of what it is to be recognised as a nation on the global stage. This is far more than a creative or tech idea. It’s not even about a disposable execution. It is about recognition, policy, and safeguarding GDP. It is also about creating new precedents for dozens of other countries facing a similar future. This work was the highest scored entry from day one of the prejudging, to the very last vote on the Grand Prix on the final day. It is an idea that needed to happen and should live on far beyond any of us.”

Grand Prix for Good
Fondation Anne de Gaulle - Anne de Gaulle

With the Fondation Anne de Gaulle lacking public awareness, despite providing residential care and support for people with neurodevelopmental conditions, Havas Paris swooped in to help. Keenly aware that the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport was named after Anne’s father, the two worked together to temporarily rename the sixth busiest international airport to 'Paris-Anne De Gaulle Airport' - drawing attention to the fact that one in six people live with a disability, and, as a whole, the need for proper support and awareness.
