Camille Summers-Valli Directs Celebratory Music Video ‘Mama’s Eyes’ for Mette

The multi-talented Mette, whose performance chops include starring in the music video for ‘Lemon’ from Rihanna & N.E.R.D. and being a long-standing member of Pharrell’s dance troupe the “Baes,” makes her mark as a musical artist with her new genre-breaking video for R&B soul-pop single ‘Mama’s Eyes,’ directed by the inimitable, boundary-pushing filmmaker Camille Summers-Valli.

METTE - Mama's Eyes (Official Video)

Chronicling the origin story behind Mette’s emergence as a performer, musician, and dancer, Camille intercuts her stylistically evocative and visually striking shots of Mette performing with culturally referential footage of growth, mothering, justice, and celebration growing increasingly more personal as the song continues. By the first chorus, you can discern that amongst the clips is a young Mette in home videos with her mother. Running counter to stereotypical imagery of mothering, Camille matches Mette’s choreography and lyrics by splicing in old Hollywood dance films, wild animals, and an array of protests. Underscored by jazz instrumentals and a highly danceable beat, the stellar direction from Camille Summers-Valli for Mette’s music video is as smooth and seamless as it is unquestionably distinctive.

Creatively in concert with Mette’s own history of growing up mixed-race, the cross-cultural Camille Summers-Valli is French-Australian, born in Bangkok, raised in Nepal, and currently based in Paris. Currently ranking amongst a roster of esteemed directors at Love Song, Camille has directed spots for Vogue and Nike, as well as ‘The Truth Takes A Journalist’ for the New York Times’s award-winning ‘The Truth Is Worth It’ campaign, which earned Best in Craft and Best in Show at Cannes. Additionally, she has directed the music videos ‘Beside April’ for BADBADNOTGOOD and Låpsley’s ‘My Love Was Like The Rain.’
