‘Ode to Queen Califia’ was fully created and produced in-house by the dairy free milk brand
Known for its best-selling plant milks, dairy free creamers, cold brew coffees and distinctly curvy bottle, LA-based Califia Farms has launched ‘Ode to Queen Califia’, a love-letter to the company’s home state of California.
The 90-second spot was fully actualised in-house, from concept to script to direction and production. To shoot the film, which explores the wonders and bounty of California’s natural landscapes, the team traveled more than 2,000 California miles over the course of four days.
Queen Califia’s strong voice and mythos is featured throughout, highlighting the idea that history lives on to positively influence the present.
As the official on-screen advertising sponsor of Jared Leto’s ‘Thirty Seconds to Mars’ tour, the 90-second spot is played for fans at each stop, prior to the band taking stage. It was announced earlier this month that Leto is also part of a new group of Califia shareholders — comprised of actors, musicians, professional athletes and supermodel entrepreneurs.
California runs deep in the roots of Califia. When the brand’s founder Greg Steltenpohl had the opportunity to create Califia Farms from the ground up, he was fuelled by a fundamental Californian ethos and drew inspiration from the legend of Queen Califia, the beautiful black goddess, who was also known as the ‘Spirit of California’.
Originally conceived in a 16th century Spanish novel, the mythical Queen Califia led an army of female warriors and fantastic creatures onto a bountiful island paradise named California. She was both nurturing and powerful; protecting both the land and people of California, like the original wellness warrior! She is now the powerful female icon featured across all Califia Farms branding.
