After a run of successes working with Ogilvy on projects in Toronto, Boldly and director Evan Bourque teamed up yet again to showcase the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander.
Vancouver was chosen as the filming destination for its lack of snow, seasonal weather, and rugged terrain. Therefore it was a great time to have torrential downpours and snow to contend with during the shoot. But the production team took up the courage to carry on and captured incredible action scenes - horses and a cowboy, precision driving, and of course, two Shirleys: Regular and Aventurous.
Evan and the agency creatives collaborated closely from the get-go - with ACDs Morgan Starr and Luke Woodard on the wheels, and producers extra-ordinaire Jaclyn Garfinkle and Lauren Sloan keeping the conversations flowing. The creative process was very fluid, blending a comedic tone with action-adventure and epic awesomeness.
Evan collaborated closely as well with DP Brandon Kelly to bring the visuals to life.
The spot was excellently crafted by editor Graham Chisholm at Nimiopere, and finished at Fort York with colourist Jason Zukowski. The final piece was sound designed at Vapor Music, and complemented by a track from The Offspring.
Evan Bourque, a filmmaker with sharp comedy instincts, recently nominated for New Director of the Year at Shots Awards America 2025, he also won at the 2023 Young Director Awards for his film, ‘Igor Loves His Car.’ The previous year, his film ‘Hammr Time’ was shortlisted across three categories. Evan's approach is simple yet powerful—he brings out the genuine humor in human connections. He has a knack for championing quirky hero characters and delivering surprising twists to keep audiences hooked. Evan is a mix of Indigenous and Fijian and identifies as BIPOC.
In addition to the motion component, Boldly also produced a stills component with roster photographer Nik Molson. The former VFX artist turned photographer captured action shots and behind-the-scenes goodness from the epic production.
