For the new Quickbooks campaign with Wieden & Kennedy London, Birdbrain produced a heavy metal jingle working with UK Metal legend and Motorhead’s producer, Romesh Dodangoda.
The campaign which first aired on Boxing Day, has multiple executions in different lengths, from TVC’s to digital online and radio, all with different lyrics highlighting the various product points of the Quickbooks app
The spots feature a no-nonsense, crack team of head-banging teeny tiny quickbooks people, all set to numerous, raucous renditions of Bachman Turner Overdrive’s - Taking Care of Business
Jake Buckley, executive producer at Birdbrain had this to say: "The marriage of fire breathing metal band and the humble TV advertising jingle took some doing. There’s no way we could have emulated that sound, we had to be in the studio with a proper metal band with a serious metal producer, saying things like ‘can you scream Tax Vat ‘n’ Payroll and still enunciate please?’ And though as a project it required severe maths solutions, collaborating with Motorhead’s producer, Romesh, for whom metal is a day-to-day and for whom advertising is absolutely not, was quite ridiculous and a cracking highlight."
Romesh Dodangoda, record producer (credits include Motorhead and Bring me The Horizon) said: "Making the music for the Quickbooks ads was a really fun experience. It was challenging as I’m used to working on albums but the team around this were really great and we got an amazing result. We were able to work remotely for most of it. My studio has a live feed so I could work on the music and the client was able to listen in through our live feed to confirm any specific parts to get it nailed."
Birdbrain is a music production company based in London & Amsterdam.
