The competition invites artists, designers, and illustrators to submit work inspired by justice, protest, and equality

Bauer Media Outdoor, in partnership with Curiosity Un (Ltd), invites illustrators, designers and visual artists from across the country to take part in Designs4Change, a national art competition marking the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act and its defining moment in the UK’s civil rights journey.

Launched as part of Curiosity Un (Ltd)’s Bristol Bus Boycott 360 campaign, the Designs4Change competition calls for bold and inspiring artwork reflecting the themes of justice, equality, and protest. Spotlighting creative voices with the hopes of shaping a more inclusive future, 10 winning designs will be displayed in a nationwide campaign across Bauer Media Outdoor’s digital Out of Home screens, reaching millions of people in busy locations including bus stops, shopping centres, and high streets. With media space valued at over £100k, the campaign offers a unique opportunity for emerging and established artists to have their work seen at scale, turning public spaces into powerful canvases for change.

Bristol Bus Boycott 360 commemorates the protests and pioneers who laid the groundwork for the UK’s first Race Relations Act, which came into effect in 1965. The legislation outlawed racial discrimination in public places for the first time, marking a pivotal shift in the fight for racial equality.

In a major milestone moment, campaign organisers are also working to bring Martin Luther King III, son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to the UK for a commemorative event on 11th November 2025 – 60 years to the day since the Act became law.

Designs4Change is open to anyone aged 18+, regardless of artistic background or experience. Entries close on Friday, 4th July 2025 and should be submitted via Curiosity Un(Ltd)’s website.

This collaboration builds on Bauer Media Outdoor’s ongoing partnership with Curiosity UnLtd, following the success of last year’s Designs4Change competition in Bristol, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Bristol Bus Boycott with striking artwork displayed across the city. It reflects Bauer Media Outdoor’s wider mission to use its nationwide advertising estate to amplify diverse voices, champion representation, and support the creative communities shaping the UK’s cultural and social landscape - bringing powerful ideas into the heart of public space.

Martin Corke, chief marketing officer at Bauer Media Outdoor, said, “The Designs4Change competition is a reminder that creativity can live anywhere - on the streets, at the bus stop, outside your local shop. As we mark 60 years since the Race Relations Act, we’re turning our screens into a national gallery of powerful posters. We’re bringing this campaign to communities across the UK - from major cities to market towns - using our screens to celebrate progress and as a canvas for ideas that deserve to be seen and heard. It’s all part of being a platform for good, opening public space for art, dialogue, and change.”

Julz Davis, disruptor-in-chief of Curiosity Un(Ltd), said, “In a pivotal year for platforming the power of peaceful protest, we are delighted to team up with Bauer Media Outdoor. Designs4Change is more than just an art competition - it's a movement for representation, recognition, and resilience. By participating, you contribute to a vital and timely national conversation about valuing racial justice, diversity and identity whilst standing firm on hard-fought-for and won rights. In this spirit, we look forward to receiving some awesome entries."
