Film follows the frontman through a surreal night in Paris and sees frontman Dan Smith shave off his iconic hair

The song is the first track taken from their upcoming new record, due for release later this year.

The video is directed by Austin Peters, who has previously worked with the band on their videos for ‘Flaws,’ ‘Laura Palmer’ and ‘Oblivion’.

“We made the video over a couple of days and nights in Paris with our incredibly talented friend, and long-time collaborator, Austin Peters,” Dan said in a statement.

“It’s is a nod towards some of our favourite films and directors. Like the album as a whole, it’s a surreal journey through euphoric highs and lows of a night, and all that comes with it: the escapism, warped realities, and unclear memories.”

“A bunch of friends came along to be involved and help make the video,” adds Smith. “We’re really happy that they did because it’s a celebration of all the amazing people who are partying and feeling alive at night, in light of the strange, dark world we live in. And we could all use a bit of celebration sometimes.”

Speaking of ‘Quarter Past Midnight’ Smith says the song was inspired by the people who come out at night.

“It’s way easier to escape in the night time,” he explains. “Places that aren’t normally open are open to the world, and the places that you associate with reality and work are all shut down. There’s a parallel universe that exists, and this other set of people who are out and about.”

Bastille recorded the new album in their newly built studio in London that Smith describes as “an old porn studio that we turned into a place that could be ours.”

They spent five months working on the new material, with the new album marking their first new body of work since 2016’s ‘Wild Wood’. Their debut album, ‘Bad Blood’, went on to go triple platinum.
