The campaign is also supported with a blooper spot

On Christmas Day, the NBA has gift-wrapped five of the season’s best basketball match-ups into one action-packed day. With the help of Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Draymond Green, Zach LaVine, Victor Oladipo, D'Angelo Russell, the Spurs Coyote and dozens of fans, the NBA is celebrating the classic holiday special, airing on ABC and ESPN, with a spot entitled “The Most Dunktastic Time of the Year."

Created by brand engagement agency The Marketing Arm, the spot is meant to strengthen the connection between Christmas and the NBA, reinforcing that Christmas without NBA games is not a fully enjoyed one.  The spot utilises the tune of the classic Christmas song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” with new lyrics including plenty of basketball tie-ins – such as “slam dunks we’ll be making, shot blocks so amazing, and three pointers from the first row.”

The spot is running on broadcast and cable networks, as well as on social media, including on Musical.ly, where fans will be able to participate in a lip-syncing challenge with a snippet from “The Most Dunktastic Time of the Year.” To further promote the Christmas games, the NBA will also have carolers sing “The Most Dunktastic Time of the Year" at the flagship NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City on December 16, 2016.

In addition, the campaign will  be supported by a companion blooper spot running on social media, Dunktastic Bloopers, which shows the players hilariously missing cues and dropping props.
